After attending Northern Arizona University for his undergraduate degree, he went on to earn his DMD in 2013 at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon, and completed his residency in periodontics and earned his MSD at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado in 2016. In his free time, Dr. Wanat enjoys spending time in Cooper Landing with his wife, Nini, his dog Kai and cat Bert, fishing, skiing, playing hockey and snow machining, along with most of the other outdoor activities Alaska has to offer. Course Synopsis This course is designed to provide dental personnel with a review of the knowledge and skills needed to utilize the new AAP Periodontal Classifications system in the dental office. A synopsis of the new periodontal classifications will be presented and will include a review of the Staging and Grading criteria. The course will cover patient assessment and how to identify which Stage and Grade in the new classifications a patient should be placed. Information regarding how to incorporate the classification system within patient records and chart notes will be covered. There will be time provided at the end of the session for questions attendees have regarding assessment and management of patients in these classifications. Handouts will be provided for the participants for future reference. Nov ý Dr. Nový is the Chief Dental Officer of the Alliance Dental Center in Quincy, Massachusetts. The California Dental Association Foundation presented him with the Dugoni Award for “Outstanding contributions to dental education,” and his private practice was the first to receive the title, “American Dental Association Adult Preventive Care Practice of the Year.” He has contributed to systematic reviews and clinical practice guidelines for the American Dental Association and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Course Description: Dentistry has long capitalized on the perception that a smile is worth a thousand words. But if our patients continue to hide their smiles while wearing masks, dentistry will need to change its tactics. Selling oral health seems more appropriate than ever before, and the latest science in cariology and remineralization makes it possible. Creative dental teams that combine teledentistry and evidence based therapies are able to bring clinicians and patients together in an aerosol-free environment and bring about an era of oral healthcare. At the end of this course, clinicians should be able to: 1. Provide engaging oral healthcare via teledentistry 2. Compare and contrast remineralization agents 3. May 13, 2020 The new dental mandate has been published. Looks good! Section II, viii, C, discusses dental cleanings as aerosol-generating procedures. They emphasized low aerosols as they still want to minimize aerosols as much as possible. What does that mean? It is still recommended to avoid using the Cavitron (ultrasonic devices) for now in order to reduce aerosols. Hand scaling is recommended. Selective polishing should be utilized (assess patient stain, polish if needed, use the least abrasive paste you can to get the desired results, use your professional judgment on what type, if any polishing needs to be completed).
